Fez Late Afternoon Countryside
The countryside around Fez, Morocco is very reminiscent of Northern California. Late one afternoon, we were at an old castle overlooking the city. On the other side were some wonderful scenics. Like most of my scenics, this is an isolated piece of landscape, taken with a 300mm equivalent lens.

Moroccan Dune Sandstorm I
This was shot the afternoon we got to the overnight stay in the Sahara during a moderate sandstorm. I really like the way the blowing sand and soft contours make the picture almost dreamlike.

Sahara Dunes Sandstorm III
The soft, windswept out of focus shapes are both soothing and dynamic. I like dunes.

Sahara Serpantine Dune Line
I like the way the image draws your eye to the bottom right and then, just when you think the line is going to take you out of the picture, it snakes off to the right, bringing you somewhat back.

Double Elaborate Arch - Rabat, Morocco
There is a pavillion near the Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat that has double walls with matching fluted arches. The correct angle and a telephoto lens bring them together in an interesting abstract.

Essouira From The Harbor
Essouira was one of our favorite places in Morocco. A combination of beach, French tourist influence, and the working harbor make it a great place to relax and take pictures. This particular afternoon the light was just spectacular. There are other shots in the galleries taken around the same time. I tried several framings of this shot, but this vertical one worked out best, especially with the cooperation of the sea gulls lining up on the wall.
Essouira Harbor - Afternoon Light
The harbor in Essouira was a fascinating place to shoot. On this particular afternoon, the light was quite wonderful and I got several very good shots. This one of the harbor, shot so as to not overexpose the sky at the right, has a wonderful brooding almost sinister character about it.

Essouira Turqoise Boat Keel Abstract I
The boat yard in Essouira is a wonderful place to shoot. I spent many hours there in our four days in Essouira. This boat in dry dock was a wonderful turqouise color and the keel had such interesting textures. The juxtaposition makes a wonderful abstract.
Essouira Turquoise Boat Vertical Abstract
The keel and rudder/prop area of this boat in drydock in Essouira harbor had the same wonerful soldered steel bands holding the steel reinforcing in place. The textures of the steel, lead and the colors make this an interesting abstraction.

Chaouen Steps
The village of Chefchaoen in Northern Morocco is famous for its white buildings and blue doorways. I'm not sure of the origin of the blue, but it is quite wonderful. I found these steps on one of my early morning outings. They almost look like an ice sculpture.
Chaouen Window and Shadow
Chaouen has wonderful architectural details every place one looks. This window is on an alley near the top of the town. I liked the sharp space defined by the window and grate and the softer space defined by the shadow of the grate in the late afternoon sun.
